Gear
What’s actually on the counter right now. Nothing here is sponsored; most of it was bought used or on sale.
Grinding
- Comandante C40 with the Red Clix axle. Used for everything, including espresso (notes here).
- An old Hario Skerton that lives in a drawer and comes out for camping.
Brewing
- Kalita Wave 185, stainless. The daily brewer (two-year write-up).
- Hario V60 02, plastic. Still the most fun, still the least consistent.
- A Clever Dripper I keep for guests who want “normal coffee”.
Espresso
- Gaggia Classic (2019), bought secondhand, with a Rancilio steam wand (what I checked before buying).
- Bottomless portafilter, 18 g basket, a cheap calibrated tamper.
Everything else
- Kettle: a gooseneck with temperature control. The display is about 2°C optimistic.
- Scale: a basic 0.1 g kitchen scale. The fancy ones are nice but not necessary.
- Water: low-mineral bottled water, only for coffee (why).
